“For the first time the house is in silence. Towards me there is a small tree,
which gives me as present all its small orange gladness. It has also extended one branch for me. It could be a love story with the orange tree.
I found out that this love story with the orange tree was just the reflection of the love story with the work we made. It was the love story with the Orchard Lab, with the Art. That is the reason to create a space in which we could bring our time and leave a piece of our soul, and words, movement, earth, past-memory-recollection, night, light, presence, music, oranges, wind, absence, I and We, and tumble exhausted. Open the space, fall down together into the night, drink a wine made of oranges, and walk on the earth that keeps us together and in distance.”

My relationship with the second (recent) Orchard Labs project was and remains a mystery. One of the ideas that came up when I talked about this with Shahar was a change in my ‘formal role’. I thought of trying out a documentary role - it seemed to give me a sense of retreat. I was feeling anxious about creating at the time (though we were on a break). Actually I think I was scared of repeating myself. The documentary/journalistic role seemed to give me a wider view of the project and allowed me to step back. Read the rest of this entry »

This SweetClarity publication was taken during a street performance in Barcelona - also during Shahar’s Tune workshop. The location was a square - a place where Shahar likes to sit and dine when he visits Barcelona. The score for the performance, if I recall correctly, was to start in groups of 4 or 5 - everything else, like always would reveal itself (or not) as the performance progressed. It was a big space and the group really mastered it.

These images were also taken a couple months ago during Shahar’s second Orchard Labs artist residency project in the desert in the south of Israel. We were scheduled to perform with some ‘jazz’ musicians who we’ve never met before. We were really looking forward to this performance - the space was initimate and the opportunity to perform with live mucusians is always embraced. We first met the musicians a few hours before the show.

This is another SweetClarity publication. The images were taken during a recess at Shahar’s Tune Barcelona project a few months ago. The performer is Aube - she was participating in the workshop but she wasn’t dancing (long story - and for Aube to tell - if she ever wants to) she was writing. When the breaks come she just had to let out her thirst to move - and one time I joined her to play around with the camera. It was frivolous fun and play and this is what it looked like.
If you haven’t already done so then please turn on your speakers. This presentation was our first attempt at adding a sound-track. I had refrained from doing this for some time (another long story) but Shahar asked me to give it a try. The result was amazing and inspiring. Read the rest of this entry »

This is one of the first images I took deliberately out of focus. I went out numerous times to walk the streets of the rather dull suburbishcity in which I lived, with a camera in hand. I usually came back empty handed. I could see nothing. Then one day as I was walking up the main street facing the sunset I got an idea to go out of focus.
What a relief - suddenly I felt an interest arising in me - I was seeing so many new things. An overflow of disassociated details literally blurred into a whole that made sense. It changed from something I could not understand to something I could sense and experience. It shifted from my thinking mind into a realm of imagination.
